YEOVIL NEWS: Hospital chief exec is one of the best in the country

CHIEF executive at Yeovil District Hospital, Paul Mears, has been named as one of the top 50 NHS chief execs in the country.

The listing, published by the Health Service Journal, set out to recognise exceptional leaders of high performing NHS organisations that are patient-centred and have consistently excellent clinical outcomes.

Judges included Dr Maureen Baker, chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners and Sir Bruce Keogh, national medical director at NHS England.YEOVIL NEWS: Hospital chief exec is one of the best in the country

The list focused particularly on those chief executives with clear vision of what the future looks like in healthcare; who have a sense of mission and have influenced the national scene, leading the transformation of their local health economies.

Commending him in the official entry in the Journal, judges described him as: “patient-focused, innovative and determined to change the way his health service works…totally committed, with real integrity.”

Yeovil NHS Foundation Trust, Peter Wyman, said: “I am delighted that Paul’s work and commitment to the Trust and the NHS has been publicly recognised.

“He is an inspiring leader and his ideas and plans for the future will have a fundamental impact on the way health services are managed in South Somerset and North Dorset.

“The recognition also reflects the hard work and dedication of all of our staff here at YeovilHospital, who work tirelessly to provide our patients with first-class quality care.”
