AUDIENCES at the Octagon Theatre over the next fortnight are in for a real treat – thanks to the Yeovil Amateur Operatic Society.

The YAOS members are ready to present their first night of the wonderful musical, The King and I, at the Octagon tonight (Tuesday, March 17, 2015) at 7.30pm.

The show is based on the Margaret Landon novel Anna and the King of Siarri which was turned into the classic TV film musical in 1956 led by Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr.LIVE THEATRE: The King and I is a must-see show at the Octagon Theatre etc etc etc!

Following on from YAOS’ hugely successful shows of last year with Sister Act and the menacing Jekyll and Hyde, everyone is looking forward to getting back on stage with The King and I.

The story is set in 1862 in Siam when an English widow, Anna Leonowens, and her young son arrive at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, having been summoned by the King to serve as tutor to his many children and wives.

The King is considered to be a barbarian by those in the West and he seeks Anna’s assistance in changing his image.

With both keeping a firm grip on their respective traditions and values, Anna and the King grow to understand and, eventually, respect one another in a truly unique love story.

We went along to the Octagon last night (Monday, March 16, 2015) for the dress rehearsal and the one thing that the audience will be struck with immediately is the costumes – they are fantastic; sparkling and magnificent.

The on-stage chemistry between the lead roles of The King (Simon Dunford) and Anna (Naomi Riglar) is super, while the talented children in the cast are wonderful.

The overall strong cast and music will ensure that the audience will go home happy – while the play within the musical, The Small House of Uncle Thomas, will be a particular highlight.

Performances start nightly at 7.30pm, plus there will be two 2.30pm matinees on Saturday, March 21, 2015, and Saturday, March 28, 2015.

Tickets for the production are priced £14 for the opening night and Saturday matinee and £17 for all other performances.
