SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Big Lottery funding for local groups

CHARITIES and community groups in the Yeovil and surrounding area have been awarded Big Lottery funding to the tune of more than £50,000.

A total of £50,027 has been given out to six local groups in the past few months from the Big Lottery Fund through its Awards for All initiative.

CDKL5 UK, a charity in Yeovil working to education parents and teachers on the CDKL5 condition. received £6,520.

The East Chinnock Village Hall Management Committee, was awarded £4,800 to help keep the centre open by making improvements to their premises.

Friends of Yeovil Country Park, a community organisation plans to use their sum of £9,900 to deliver a programme of activities to help the local community engage in and appreciate their countryside.

The charity Seavington Playing Field Association (SPFA) was awarded £10,000 to fund the development of a footpath which will increase accessibility around the village.

The St Mary Parochial Church Council were also awarded £10,000 to make improvements to the church pathway and also install running water in the church.

Speak Up Somerset, a project working to develop a new approach to address health and well-being, especially for those suffering from claustrophobia, were awarded £9,050 to support their positive steps mobile diary application.

Yeovil MP David Laws said: “I am delighted so many great causes in our area have received money from the Big Lottery Fund to help them carry on with their invaluable work.

“I am sure the awards, which total over £50,000, will be spent well and really help our local communities.”
