YEOVIL NEWS: Rat bait could be used to catch Ninesprings vermin

PARTS of the Yeovil Country Park might have to be closed off to the public while action is taken to deal with a growing population of rats.

Visitors to the park – better known as Ninesprings – are being urged NOT to encourage the number of rats in the area to grow any more.YEOVIL NEWS: Rat bait could be used to catch Ninesprings vermin

South Somerset District Council, which manages Yeovil Country Park, has asked people not to feed the birds, drop any food or leave any food waste in the bins at Ninesprings.

“The population of rats in this area has grown and we are trying to reduce the population by removing ALL food sources,” said a spokesman on the council's social media Facebook page.

“If we cannot achieve this, we will have to use rat bait in this area, which may mean the closure of the play and lake areas.

“We really do not want to do this, so please help us eliminate all food sources left in the area so the population naturally disperses.”

The spokesman added: “As with any visit in the countryside, to protect yourself and your family, we recommend washing your hands after a visit to the country park and play area.

“Toilets with hand washing facilities are available at the Ninesprings Centre just along the cycleway at the Brunswick Street car park.”
