YEOVIL NEWS: Homes plan for former Red Cross HQ

PLANS to turn the former British Red Cross offices in Yeovil into new homes will be discussed tonight (Monday, March 2, 2015) by town planners.

Proposals have been submitted to South Somerset District Council to make alterations and convert the large property on the junction of Grove Avenue and Preston Road into six flats and a studio-style cottage, along with the building of two homes within the site.

A previous application to build three homes on the site was not supported by Yeovil Town Council’s planning committee back in September, but has now been amended with a reduction in the number of houses down to two.

The planned conversion of a single-storey building in the corner of the site into a one-bedroom studio cottage is also new to the previous application.

There will be 11 car parking spaces available as a result of the development, while a large area of the site will be maintained as open garden.

Councillors have heard that one letter of objection has been received saying that the proposals would be “unsympathetic to the conservation area.”

A final decision on the application will rest with South Somerset District Council.
