SOMERSET NEWS: A happy ending to a moving story about the lost letter to much-loved dad

TEN-YEAR-OLD Summer Lloyd is planning to frame the moving letter she wrote to her dad who died five years ago.

The Yeovil Press ran a story last night (Tuesday, February 25, 2015) on how a customer at the Prince of Wales pub at the Ham Hill Country Park near Yeovil had found a letter written by a young girl called Summer to her deceased father.

The story was placed on social media and overnight it was “shared” around the world and then this morning more media outlets publicised the details as the Prince of Wales landlady Nicki Holroyd looked for the girl who had written the heartbreaking letter.

It did not take long before Summer Lloyd, of Yeovil, was located. It was the fifth anniversary of her father’s death last Friday (February 20, 2015) and she planned to let off a balloon with the letter attached, but she lost the letter so she just sent the balloon.

She was so touched that Nicki at the pub kept the letter when it was handed in that she presented her with some flowers today.

Her mum Sarah Lloyd said: “I really appreciate what Nicki did, it meant a lot to Summer. The appeal on Facebook was seen all over the world including her relatives in Australia, so she said to me this morning 'mummy I'm famous'!

“It's been tough and she misses her dad so every year we try to do this - it helps her and is a kind of therapy.”

Nicki said: "I'm so pleased the letter has been reunited with Summer, she touched all our hearts. What a lovely girl and such a sweet letter.''

Summer said: ''We let off the balloon anyway and a bird appeared in the sky which seemed to hover near us, it was very special. Thank you Nicki for giving me back my letter, I think I will keep it now and frame it.”
