LIFESTYLE: New ceremony rooms for weddings

COUPLES looking to have their knot tied by a Somerset County Council registrar can now do so in one of two new ceremony rooms.

Brides and grooms-to-be can now get hitched in the majestic Mendip District Council chamber, or the beautiful Plucknett Suite at Yeovil’s Abbey Manor conference centre in Preston   Road.

An ‘open day’ event will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015, from 2pm until 4pm at the Mendip Chamber in Shepton Mallet, for anyone who wants to see what’s on offer at the venue.

It follows a similar, successful event in Yeovil in January. Members of the public will also be able to find out about the Registration Services in Shepton Mallet and meet registrars.LIFESTYLE: New ceremony rooms for weddings

The Ceremony Teams also offer Welcome and Eternity Ceremonies for those seeking a non-religious naming ceremony for a child, or to renew marriage vows, and are happy to meet anyone interested in finding out more.

The new venues’ official openings come following the relocation of Somerset Registration Services staff into their new offices.

Individuals wanting to register births, deaths and marriages in Shepton Mallet can now find the County Council's team at the Shape Mendip public services hub in Cannards Grave Road. Yeovil’s relocated service, meanwhile, can be found at the town’s library in King George Street.

The service is already looking forward to greeting its first Mendip wedding ceremony this Valentine’s Day – all planned by the Somerset groom before he got down on one knee last Christmas Day.

Cllr David Hall, who is responsible for the Registration Service at Somerset County Council, said: “Last year was a real time of change for our teams in the Registration Services, and 2015 is not going to prove any different.

“Thanks to the transformation, the public can now access our new Registration Services at the locations they told us they wanted them most, so it’s great that our hard-working staff have now successfully made the move.

“As for couples who are now at the point of weighing up their options for their big day, do consider us, come and have a look – these venues may have just what you’re looking for.”

The Registration Service works through an appointments only system – to find out more about the services on offer at the office closest to you, visit www.somerset.gov.uk/births-marriages-deaths/registry-offices or call the Somerset Register Office on 01823-282251.
