YEOVIL NEWS: Family appeal for information after man left in coma

THE family of a man who is fighting for his life in hospital after being found with serious head injuries in Yeovil town centre have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Mike Slade, 51, was found by members of the public in an alleyway running between the Tesco car park and the Manor Hotel in West Hendford at around 3am this morning (Sunday, February 1, 2015).YEOVIL NEWS: Family appeal for information after man left in coma

Mr Slade was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol where he has undergone an operation and is now in an induced coma. He remains in a life-threatening condition.

His brother, Rob Slade, told the Yeovil Press: “We would appeal to anyone who may have information as to what happened to please come forward and get in touch with police.

“Mike is in a serious condition and we are desperately worried about him. But we want to know what happened and who might have done this.

“So please – if you know anything about what happened, come forward.”

Mr Slade’s injuries have been complicated by the fact that just over ten years ago he was the victim of another vicious late-night attack on his way home from a night out in Yeovil.

He was in a coma for a short time and spent several weeks in hospital and his injuries resulted in him suffering a loss of speech.

But Mr Slade, who is well-known locally in the Yeovil Pool League, was determined not to let the assault stop him from doing something with his life and he turned to writing.YEOVIL NEWS: Family appeal for information after man left in coma

It took him seven years to compile and write, but in 2013 he saw his hard work pay off in the publication of The History of the English Football League Part One 1888-1930.

Now football fan Mr Slade is fighting another battle for life after suffering what appears to have been another serious assault in Yeovil town centre.

Det Con Dan King said: “We know he watched the Chelsea vs Manchester City Premier League game in the Westminster pub in Westminster Street and he also attended the Liberal Club, now known as the 94 club, and then the Labour Club.

“He’s captured on CCTV going into the alleyway at 2am but we’re appealing for anyone who used this alleyway between 2am and 3am to come forward, as well as anyone who saw a man matching the description given during the evening.”

If you have any information, please call Yeovil CID via the 24-hour Enquiry Centre on 101 and quote log number 191 of 1 Feb.
