SOMERSET NEWS: Bridgwater pedals a Bike Kitchen

THE Bridgwater Way Project is launching its first ever Sunday Bike Kitchen this Sunday (February 1, 2015).

The Bike Kitchen is free, run by members of Bridgwater Bike Recycling Project and Hamp Community Association, and will be held at the ReCreation Youth and Community Centre, in Bridgwater’s Rhode Lane.

It will offer people an opportunity to borrow tools and learn how to maintain their bicycle, with support and advice on hand if they need it.

The Sunday Bike Kitchen Live will run every week from 1-3pm and will be an opportunity for people to get together, have a coffee and socialise. It will promote self-reliance and confidence and make cycling accessible and affordable for all.SOMERSET NEWS: Bridgwater pedals a Bike Kitchen

Those who come along can expect a welcoming environment, bicycle-themed DVDs and refreshments.

Somerset County Council’s highways and transport spokesman, Cllr Harvey Siggs, said: “Bridgwater is well known as a town with a love of cycling, so offering the community the opportunity to become self-sufficient in bicycle maintenance, in a fun and welcoming environment, represents another great offer from The Bridgwater Way project.”

The Bridgwater Way – funded by the Department of Transport - includes 6.5miles of new or improved cycle paths and walking routes, and a host of activities to encourage sustainable transport and ease congestion.

It is being delivered through a partnership of Somerset County Council, Sustrans and Sedgemoor District Council.
