SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES: Former Preston School student is off to French ski resort

YEOVIL College hospitality student Jamie Machin has secured a prestigious placement at popular French ski resort Les Arcs.

The Professional Food & Beverage Service Supervision student applied for the post after a visit by Workaseason to Yeovil College, one of several careers talks arranged for students.

Following an in depth interview in Surrey, Jamie was offered the post of chalet supervisor at the company’s second largest resort, located in Les Arcs, France.

Jamie is one of just three chalet supervisors, playing a key role in customer relations and support, liaising with visitors, solving problems and ensuring guests enjoy their time at the resort.SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES: Former Preston School student is off to French ski resort

The 19-year-old former Preston School student said: “It was the guest speaker who got me interested in it.  I applied, got an interview and went to see how I got on.  I had a really good time and met some nice people.  I was told I’d got the post the next day.

“I was speechless and it wasn’t until I hung up the phone that it hit me, then I was over the moon!  I sent a text to my dad, who said “Well done!” and went round his workplace telling everyone.  Mum was happy too.

“I would definitely recommend my course at Yeovil College.  The job opportunities you can get in hospitality are limitless and the guest speakers the college gets in show you opportunities you wouldn’t want to miss.”

Jamie will complete an initial six month placement at Les Arcs, then hopes to continue working through the summer season.
