SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Medals for Summer Reading Challenge readers

MEDALS and certificates have been presented to those who successfully took part in a Summer Reading Challenge at Crewkerne Library.

Henry, Ashley, David and Michael, supported by able2achieve, each read six books during the summer holidays and were invited back to Crewkerne Library to meet the Mayor of Crewkerne, Cllr Robin Pailthorpe, and Somerset County Council’s spokesman for adult social care, Cllr William Wallace, who presented them with their medals and certificates.

All four men are supported by able2achieve, a social enterprise based in Yeovil which supports people with learning disabilities, mental health, and other associated disabilities.

The Summer Reading Challenge ran from July until September. People taking part in the free challenge had to read six books and could collect stickers and play games on a special website along the way.

Cllr Wallace said: “It was a pleasure to meet these young men and award them for their achievements over the summer. They should be very proud of themselves and I hope they will continue to use the great facilities available at Somerset’s Libraries.”

The Mayor of Crewkerne added: “It was an honour and privilege to present these fine young men with their medals and certificates.”

Rupert Elliot, chief executive of able2achieve, said: “I am absolutely delighted to see our learners receive such positive accolades, they are regular visitors to the Library and now very integrated into Crewkerne’s wider community.”
