SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Boxing Day walkers remember tsunami victim Piers Simon

A BIT of rain failed to dampen the spirit of walkers from stepping out yesterday (Friday, December 26, 2014) to remember former Yeovil College student Piers Simon who was among the 250,000 people to be killed in the Asian tsunami of Boxing Day 2004.

The group set off from Home Farm in Chilthorne Domer at 10am and stopped at 10.36am – to coincide with the moment the giant waves struck Koh Phi Phi in Thailand where Piers was holidaying – to remember him and the thousands of other victims.

They then walked on to the beautiful Montacute House for refreshments before returning to Home Farm for lunch.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Boxing Day walkers remember tsunami victim Piers Simon

“Thank you to all those who came along, despite the rain, and we look forward to seeing you throughout 2015,” said Luke Simon, of the Piers Simon Appeal and School in a Bag project.

With the coming year being the tenth anniversary of the creation of the PSA – organisers will be holding some special fundraising events.

The PSA has helped to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds to fund projects in areas around the globe devastated by natural disaster.

While thousands of SchoolBags have also been distributed to children around the globe. Each bag contains useful school equipment such as books, pens and pencils, as well as eating utensils – things the children would not normally have.
