YEOVIL NEWS: Community plans under discussion

PEOPLE will be able to give their views this evening (Wednesday, December 17, 2014) on planned community facilities for the new Lufton estate being built on the edge of Yeovil.

A consultation exercise is being held at the Abbey Manor Community Hall today from 5pm to 6.45pm where people will be able to discuss issues with representatives of Somerset County Council and South Somerset District Council.

The new community facilities including a primary school could be ready as soon as September 2016. The school plans include a Community Hall.

Plans for the community space are being draw up at the moment and council authorities would like local residents and local organisations to comment on the proposals.

The plans will be available to view in the Parish Room at Abbey Manor Community Hall, while people can also email district council neighbourhood development officer Natalie Ross at natalie.ross@southsomerset.gov.uk .

The council’s Cllr Peter Seib, who represents the Brympton ward, said: “The plan has always been that the Lufton development would provide a range of community facilities for use by Alvington, Houndstone and Lufton residents in much the same way that Abbey Manor, and other parts of town are catered for.

“This consultation is about checking the detailed design and making sure we've got everything covered.”

The chairman of the district’s Area South committee, Cllr Peter Gubbins, said: “This is an ideal opportunity for the community to be involved in shaping the facilities on the site and the future of Yeovil and its surrounding areas.

“I’m delighted that progress is being made quickly and Somerset County Council and South Somerset District Council are working together to consider the views of local residents.”

The plans will then be further discussed by Brympton Parish Council at the Parish Room later this evening at 7.30pm.
