YEOVIL NEWS: Marking 30 years of twinning with Herblay

MEMBERS of the Yeovil Twinning Association planted a special tree this morning (Friday, December 12, 2014) to commemorate 30 years of friendship with the French community of Herblay.

The association was joined by the Mayor of Yeovil, Cllr Mike Lock, and the Mayoress, Pauline Lock, for the official tree planting ceremony in the Yeovil Country Park area not far from the Octagon Theatre.YEOVIL NEWS: Marking 30 years of twinning with Herblay

Countryside rangers from South Somerset District Council helped the twinning officials to plant the Sorbus Golden Wonder tree – otherwise known as a Rowan or Mountain Ash.

Among those at the tree planting ceremony was John Flatters, former Head of PE at Preston School in Yeovil, who led many trips to Herblay with students.

Yeovil and Herblay were officially “twinned” on October 13, 1984. Ever since there have been strong and active twinning associations on both sides of the English Channel with regular visits between the two towns.

Herblay is located on the north bank of the River Seine and is less than half-an-hour by train from the centre of Paris. It has a population of 29,000 people.
