SOMERSET NEWS: Disabled man left stuck at supermarket

MEAN tricksters are believed to have meddled with the lock on a mobility scooter which meant that its elderly disabled owner was unable to ride off.

Firefighters had to come to the rescue this afternoon (Friday, December 12, 2014) after the disabled man discovered the padlock would not release from his scooter which was parked outside the Morrisons supermarket in Priory Bridge Road, Taunton.

One fire engine from Taunton was mobilised at just after 4.30pm after a call was made by the scooter owner.

A spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “He believed someone had tampered with the lock while he was inside the store and efforts to seek assistance from local garages were unsuccessful.”

Firefighters used bolt croppers to cut the lock to release the scooter and allow the grateful man to go on his way.
