SOMERSET NEWS: Woman, 73, left shaken after two men force way into her home

POLICE are appealing for information on two males who forced entry into the home of an elderly resident in the Bower area of Bridgwater.

The incident happened at around 6pm on Monday, November 24, 2014.

The men knocked on the door and asked to use the telephone. The woman, 73, refused and the men forced entry into the property. One man was described as well built, 40ish, having a soft Irish accent, a full face, fair curly hair, bushy eyebrows, blue eyes, and was wearing a dark anorak.

After looking round the property the men left, leaving the woman shaken and upset. She is being supported by officers and the Homes for Sedgemoor team.

Sgt Chris Walls said: “This is an isolated incident in Bridgwater and our officers have visited the location to carry out safety checks and to reassure the residents. We are stepping up our high visibility patrols in the area.”

This time of year sees an increase in bogus door-to-door callers either selling household items, offering to do work on your drive or roof, or claiming there is a gas leak.

Anyone with information can contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555111.
