THE Yeovil constituency branch of the Labour Party is on the search for a new candidate to stand in next year’s General Election and fight for the Yeovil seat.YEOVIL NEWS: Labour look for new candidate

The constituency branch issued a statement tonight (Thursday, November 20, 2014) that its chosen candidate for the election has had to stand down on medical grounds.

“It is unfortunate, but Martin Jevon requires back surgery and will be laid up for several months in the New Year, making it impossible for him to actively campaign in the lead up to May’s election,” read the statement.

The chairman of Yeovil Labour Party, Joe Conway, said: “We all wish Martin a speedy recovery and thank him for all the good work he has carried out on behalf of the local Labour Party since his selection in February.

“Martin is a very talented and well-informed politician and it is a sad loss to our party.”

Murray Shepstone, who had been appointed as Mr Jevon’s agent, will take over the responsibility until the local party members select a replacement candidate.

The General Election next year will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015.
