CLUB NEWS: England beat the Scots at Yeovil Town!

A CROWD of just under 5,000 converged on Yeovil Town FC tonight (Thursday, November 20, 2014) to watch England Under-16s take on their Scottish counterparts.CLUB NEWS: England beat the Scots at Yeovil Town!

And it was a good night for the English supporters as their team emerged 2-1 winners in an entertaining match played by young footballers who could go on to become the future stars of the game.

England took the lead on 28 minutes through Arsenal’s Joe Willock, but Scotland drew level shortly after the start of the second-half when an excellent free-kick came back off the bar and Rangers’ Jack Thomson netted.

But England soon regained the initiative when on 52 minutes Martell Taylor-Crossdale, of Chelsea, scored to give them what turned out to be the winner.

The win was not enough, however, for England to win the Victory Shield tournament played between the Home Nations.

Wales Under-16s had earlier completed their first outright Victory Shield success in 66 years after they beat Northern Ireland 2-0.

There were a lot of young football fans in the 4,733 crowd tonight at Huish Park and Yeovil Town officials will be hoping that they have caught the “football bug” and will want to return when the Glovers are in action.
