TRADERS came up trumps in spook-tacular fashion again on Hallowe’en Night for the annual town centre Trick or Treat event for children in Chard.

Shops, offices, banks, pubs, cafes, restaurants, hair salons, florists, osteopaths and even a funeral director all got involved as the Chard Town Team brought the community together last night (Friday, October 31, 2014) for Hallowe'en.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Spooky fun in Chard town centre for Hallowe’en!

Hundreds of children and their parents – all dressed in suitable Hallowe’en costumes – marched up and down High Street, Fore Street, Holyrood Street, Boden Street and Howards Row and visited participating outlets to receive their treats.

There were plenty of activities for people – of all ages – to enjoy including apple bobbing, glitter tattoos, face painting, entertainment and games such as “pin the bone on the skeleton.”

This is the third year such an event has been held – the inspiration of Michelle Young, of Razooks hair salon in Holyrood Street, who initially started it off as a Hallowe’en Party in 2012 to celebrate her business’ first birthday.

Michelle last night said she was thrilled with the success as a total of 35 outlets in the town centre had taken part and that there seemed to be more and more children out with their parents enjoying the Hallowe’en festivities.

Garry Shortland, of Chard Town Team, who is also Deputy Mayor, said he was delighted that the event helped to bring the business community together and also encouraged people to visit shops that they might not necessarily go to in their everyday life.

Trick or Treat attendees were invited along to the Guildhall where they could buy a “treasure map” list of all the places in town taking part.

Money from the event will be donated to the Chard Area Youth Committee.

List of places in Chard town centre taking part in the Hallowe’en event were as follows: Guildhall; Sweet Memories; Morrisons; Holland & Barrett; Gordon Stoker; Like Crafts; Sue Ryder; Hair Inspirations; Secret Garden; Carens; Sarah Hodge; Sainsburys; Village Bakery; Dailys; Razooks; Envy; Spice Villa; Choughs; Phoenix; Savanas; Lloyds; Dove Tails; Barclays; Kelly Leigh School of Dance; Tigerfly Photography; Betterbuy Local; Co-op; Dolphin; Orchard Osteopaths; Elios; Barry Gibbs; Pure Beauty; Whites; Sue’s Flowers; Store 21.
