SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Hot stuff for School in a Bag

ORGANISERS of a charity curry night in aid of the Piers Simon Appeal’s School in a Bag initiative have hailed it as a big success.

Nearly 80 people attended the event which was held last night (Thursday, October 30, 2014) at Home Farm in Chilthorne Domer – headquarters of the PSA and School in a Bag scheme.

Diners were able to tuck into a fine three-course banquet with the Indian food having been prepared by the Signature Viceroy restaurant in Yeovil.

PSA charity liaison officer, Luke Simon, said: “It was a great success and I would like to thank everyone who supported the event and to the Viceroy for the fantastic food.”

But it was back to work this morning (Friday, October 31, 2014) with charity workers and volunteers packing 1,000 school bags destined for Gambia.

Each school bag is filled with stationery, learning resources and eating utensils that will enable a child to write, draw, colour, calculate, express and themselves and, above all, learn.

The PSA was created in memory of former Yeovil College student Piers Simon who was killed in the Asian tsunami of Boxing Day 2004.
