SOMERSET NEWS: Police ask for caution on unconfirmed abduction rumours

POLICE are urging people to use caution when sharing unconfirmed reports on social media of attempted abductions in their community.

There have been rumours circulating on Facebook about attempted abductions around the Bridgwater and Taunton areas.

A police spokesman said: “We have received information about three suspicious incidents – two in Bridgwater and one in Wellington. All three reports give various descriptions of black vehicles which have approached females.”SOMERSET NEWS: Police ask for caution on unconfirmed abduction rumours

The spokesman added: “We are taking these reports seriously and looking into whether any criminal offences have been committed.

“We have officers working on these enquiries and our local neighbourhood teams are out and about in the communities to provide reassurance and support.”

But the spokesman said: “We ask everyone to be considerate when sharing unconfirmed reports on Facebook as rumours can quickly cause alarm.

“We encourage anyone with information to call us on 101 and to report suspicious incidents straight away.”
