SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Man dies in lorry crash

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic incident in Somerset this morning (Wednesday, October 29, 2014).

The incident, involving two lorries, was reported to police at about 9am. It happened on the A372 near to Podimore.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Man dies in lorry crash

A police spokesman said: “One of the vehicles appears to have been struck by a crane fixed to the other lorry and ended up in a roadside ditch.

“The driver of the lorry in the ditch – believed to be in his 40s – suffered serious head injuries and died later at the scene.”

The road was closed to enable a detailed examination of the scene by collision investigators.

The Health and Safety Executive and the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency have been informed.

The police spokesman added: “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been travelling along the A372 shortly before 9am who may have any information to help our enquiries.”

Anyone able to help is asked to contact the collision investigation unit on the force number 101.
