Officers are really keen to get schemes started particularly in the eastern side of Yeovil.YEOVIL NEWS: Volunteers needed by police for new Neighbourhood Watch schemes

PC George Pettingell, speaking on social media, said: “Neighbourhood Watch could be of benefit to you and your neighbours as it has an impact on things such as the price as home insurance.”

Anyone interested in getting more information can contact Lindsey Stone in the Neighbourhood Watch Schemes Office at Bridgwater Police Centre on 01278-644799 during office hours from 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday. Alternatively email lindsey.stone@avonandsomerset.police.uk .

PC Pettingell added: “Lindsey will be able to give people a pack of information about Neighbourhood Watch which they can read at their leisure.

“The pack will ask people to complete a survey of their immediate area to see if there is sufficient interest to start a scheme. The recommended size of a scheme is between ten and 20 properties.

“If there is sufficient interest then arrangements are made with local police staff to meet with them and their neighbours.”

In the meantime, however, if you have any information about suspected crime then please call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555111. Alternatively, if it is a real emergency or a crime is in progress – dial 999.
