YEOVIL NEWS: Castaways wow the Octagon audiences!

THE Castaway Theatre Group wowed the audiences at the Octagon Theatre over the weekend with two performances to celebrate the group’s tenth anniversary.

The show, featuring around 80 members of the Yeovil-based group, was filled with song, music, dance and laughter as the Castaways looked back at a decade of performing.

The group took the audiences on a whistle-stop tour of some of the best loved musicals such as Hairspray, Annie, Les Miserables and Matilda.

There were some excellent solo performances as well during the magical show to demonstrate the rich and vibrant talent within the Castaways group.

The show-stopping performance, however, came at the end of Act One and Castaways’ amazing and mesmerising rendition of At The End of the Day and One Day More from the smash-hit musical Les Miserables.

The Castaways’ children were a main feature of the show and they produced some great performances.

There was a special moment in the Saturday evening show when two of the group’s young stars, Jack Osmond and Louise Cannon, who both left Castaways recently to pursue their theatre dreams in London, went on stage and performed Suddenly Seymour from the Little Shop of Horrors.

A collection saw theatre-goers donate nearly £450 which will be donated to St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice.

It was back in 2005 when the Castaway Theatre Group was first put together by Lynn Lee Brown to raise money for the hospice. It was apt that ten years on and the group was still raising money for this most worthwhile charity.
