YEOVIL NEWS: Info wanted on vintage car

HISTORIANS are asking people to help find a vintage car which had been bought in Yeovil.

South Somerset District Council’s Community Heritage Access Centre recently received an enquiry from Karen Field to help find a car – a Rover P4 110 – which had been restored.

Karen has been researching the history of the car and found out that it originally belonged to Albert Percy Winsor who bought it from Males Garage of Yeovil.

Albert Percy Winsor was the son of Percy Winsor, who established Percy Winsor Ltd, sellers of Agricultural Machinery. They had showrooms in Vicarage Street, Yeovil and Karen wonders if anyone, employees of Percy Winsor or members of the public, remember the car being parked outside.YEOVIL NEWS: Info wanted on vintage car

Karen, a science teacher from Hounslow, has found out that the car was sold to a Mr John Ayres of Winnersh in what was formerly Berkshire.

The third owner was a tile company owner in Saffron Walden and it was then owned by a classical studies director at TrinityCollege, Cambridge. Karen bought it from a dealer in Birmingham.

Cllr Sylvia Seal, a spokesman for the council’s leisure and culture department, said: “Our Community Heritage Access Centre really will get involved with everything from the past. The service the staff offer is top-class and they really go to great lengths to help you piece together the past.”

If you do remember the car, Karen would love to hear from you and can be contacted via the Community Heritage Access Centre on 01935-462886 or by e-mail at heritage.services@southsomerset.gov.uk
