YEOVIL NEWS: Truckers look forward to next year's Wessex Truck Show
TRUCKERS are looking forward to pencilling into their diaries the dates for next year’s Wessex Truck Show following the success of the 2014 event which was held in Yeovil.
Thousands of people descended on the two-day show at the Yeovil Showground earlier this month where more than 400 trucks of all shapes and sizes were on display.
Even though confirmation of dates for next year have yet to be announced by organisers, it would appear that truckers will be only too keen to put pen to paper and sign up for 2015.
Shaun Aldred, of Ross Garrett Transport Haulage based in Frome, said: “The show’s been great – I’ve been very impressed.”
Shaun told the Yeovil Press that he had visited the show in 2013 – its first year – to have a “little nose” to see what it was like and he was delighted to be displaying this time around.
The People’s Choice Trophy at this year’s show was awarded in honour of Ross Garrett, of Holcombe.
Ross sadly died earlier this year at the age of just 60 and was well-known in the haulage business and was a champion truck racer.

The People’s Choice Trophy – named as the Ross Garrett Trophy – was presented to the Afghan Heroes truck with Kian Humphreys and TLP Haulage.
The Competitors’ Choice Trophy, in honour of trucker Martin Phippard who died last year from Motor Neurone Disease, was won by JA Mackenzie Ltd.
Barrie Baker, of the Mendip Model Truckers, has been exhibiting his model trucks at shows for the past 26 years with the first 24 of those at the truck show held at Shepton Mallet.
With that one having moved north, Barrie and his model trucker pals have been coming to the Wessex Truck Show for the past two years.
And Barrie said: “It’s very well organised and organised by a great group of lads.”
Matt Ramsey and Nick Reed, of the South-West Remote Controlled Trucks group, who were also displaying at the show, said that they would definitely be attending next year’s show.

David Cross, of show organisers Fosse Way Events Ltd, said: “Fiercely proud of the team and all the people who helped us over the weekend – you all know who you are and there is too many to list.”
Around 6,000 people visited the show over the weekend and organisers think that number could have risen to 8,000 had the weather been kinder on the Sunday.
Overall winner judged best entry in show was John Coupland with his Peterbilt 379.
