YEOVIL NEWS: Helping to raise a smile for Sue Ryder at Morrisons

STAFF and supporters at the Morrisons store in Yeovil have today (Friday, August 22, 2014) been helping to “raise a smile” for the Sue Ryder charity by getting on their bikes.

The supermarket in Lysander Road has joined forces with other Morrisons branches in the region to see if they can cycle – on exercise bikes – a combined total of 24,000 miles; the distance it is to go right around the world.YEOVIL NEWS: Helping to raise a smile for Sue Ryder at Morrisons

The Yeovil team has been given the target of chalking up a total of 230 miles today and tomorrow (Saturday, August 23, 2014) and are hoping that customers will dig deep and donate their loose change.

The store is hoping to raise around £1,000 from Yeovil customers and earlier today staff were joined by the Mayor and Mayoress, Cllr Mike Lock and his wife Pauline, as well as the ever-jovial town crier Bruce Trigger.

Cllr Lock and Bruce even got in on the act by cycling by getting on the exercise bikes, while the Mayoress was only too keen to rattle a bucket to encourage shoppers to part with their change.

Morrisons stores up and down the country are this year raising money for the Sue Ryder charity by holding a variety of fun-filled events.

Sue Ryder provide free care to those affected by life-changing illnesses delivered through one of its 13 care centres, homecare services and healthcare clinics.

The Mayor said he was delighted to support the “raise a smile” cycle ride at Morrisons and encouraged shoppers to dig deep.
