SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Firefighters trace crash victim's phone to find her

AN emergency services operator had to keep a woman on the phone after she had been involved in an accident so firefighters could trace her location.

It was just before 1.30pm today (Tuesday, July 29, 2014) when the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call from a distressed female who had been involved in a road traffic collision where her car had left the road and had rolled into a ditch.

A Fire Service spokesman told the Yeovil Press: “As the caller was not local she did not have any idea of her location and the car was well off the road, so passing motorists could not see her.

“The emergency operator stayed on the phone with the female to reassure her and provide safety advice while her phone number was traced to ascertain a location.”

Firefighters from Wincanton, Castle Cary and Yeovil were mobilised and the woman was found on the westbound carriageway of the A303 between Wincanton and Sparkford.

The spokesman added: “Once we’d found the female, crews made contact with her and carried out casualty care while awaiting the ambulance personnel.”
