SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Firefighters from across district deal with empty home fire

SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Fire at empty home

FIREFIGHTERS from across the district were busy during the night (Tuesday, July 29, 2014) dealing with a fire at an empty home in Crewkerne.

Three fire engines from Crewkerne, Yeovil and Beaminster, from neighbouring Dorset, were mobilised at around 1am to reports of smoke coming from a home in South Street.

Firefighters discovered that smoke was coming from an unoccupied three-storey property and three further crews from Chard and Martock were also sent for.

In addition, an incident command unit from Street and the aerial ladder platform from Yeovil were both mobilised.

A spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service told the Yeovil Press: “The fire caused 100 per cent damage to a first floor airing cupboard and adjoining store room plus 50 per cent damage to the ground floor kitchen below.”

The spokesman added: “The cause of the fire is being investigated.”
