FOOTBALL: Chard Town 1, Westland Sports 1

YEOVIL-BASED Westland Sports gained a 1-1 pre-season friendly draw at Chard Town on Saturday (July 26, 2014).

Westland, of the Dorset Premier League, went into the interval 1-0 down after Chard, of the Western League Division One, opened the scoring from a set-piece shortly before half-time.

But Westland, kicking down the Zembard Lane slope, had the better of the proceedings in the second period and levelled midway through the half when Simon Matuzeski was fouled inside the box and Dave Beats netted the resulting penalty.

The two teams were able to produce an entertaining friendly despite the game being played in extremely warm conditions.
