YEOVIL NEWS: Proud moment for Edna and her family

FAMILY and friends of Yeovil’s bowls player Edna Bessell were avidly watching last night’s (Wednesday, July 23, 2014) opening of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Edna was seen with the England team members as they walked into Celtic FC's Celtic Park stadium for the opening ceremony.

She is team manager of the England women’s bowls team.

Edna was awarded a MBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list in 2011 for her services to lawn bowls. She represented England for more than 20 years as a player.

Bowls events at the Commonwealth Games will take place today (Thursday, July 24, 2014) and Friday (July 25, 2014), plus July 29-30, 2014.

Mo Monkton, of Ilminster, is the manager and coach of visually impaired bowlers in Glasgow.
