SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Charity boxes stolen in Langport

HEARTLESS thieves have stolen four charity boxes in Langport during the past month.

The collection boxes were stolen in two thefts from shops in the town. At between 7am and 7.15am on Monday, June 23, 2014, a collection box raising money for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance was stolen from Fosters Newsagents in Bow Street.

Last week, between Thursday, July 17, 2014, and today (Wednesday, July 23, 2014) three collection boxes were stolen from Evans Family Butchers.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Charity boxes stolen in Langport

Although police do not yet know which charities three of the collection boxes belong to, these boxes are a major source of income for charities. Last year, collection boxes alone raised £100,000 for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance charity.

Anyone with information about the thefts should contact PC Simon Ledbury on 101.

PC Ledbury said: “The theft of collection boxes is cruel and deprives charities of much needed income.

“Although the boxes individually may only include a small amount of cash the charities rely on this money to continue the work they do and which benefits our communities.

“If anyone knows who took the collection boxes or has found them discarded in the area please get in touch with us.”
