A further fire crew from Wells was called to attend, along with ambulances.

Two air ambulances and the hazardous area response team arrived on scene and helped with one 16-year-old lad who was suffering from shock and cuts, one 18-year-old female with a suspected broken leg and an eight-year-old child also suffering from shock.

The man still within the water with back and chest injuries was rescued by the specialist team.

A spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service told the Yeovil Press: “One male casualty was conveyed to hospital by air ambulance, while another casualty was also taken to hospital by the second air ambulance.

“The Environment Agency was requested to attend due to fuel and oil leaking into the river from the vehicle.”
