SOMERSET NEWS: Emergency repair work on A38 at Wellington

WORKMEN will be pulling out all the stops tomorrow (Wednesday, July 9, 2014) to resurface a stretch of the much-used A38 through Somerset - which has been damaged by a diesel spill - as quickly as possible.

Somerset County Council’s highways department will begin work first thing in the morning to resurface part of the A38 relief road at wellington.

The stretch of road runs about a quarter of a mile between Hoyles Road and Swains Lane which has been closed since lunchtime today following the spill from a fuel tanker.

A county council spokesman told the Yeovil Press: “The aim is for the road to be reopened tomorrow evening (Wednesday, July 9, 2014) depending on the full extent of the damage.

“Work on another road in the county has been postponed to allow the highways gang to tackle the A38 immediately.”

Motorists can expect high levels of traffic through Wellington town centre tomorrow and are advised to avoid if possible and use the motorway if they can.
