Football: Millwall 0, Yeovil Town 1: Ed Upson is the hero once more!

YEOVIL Town started life in the Sky Bet Championship in perfect style this afternoon (Saturday, August 3, 2013) with a last-gasp 1-0 victory at Millwall.

Midfielder Ed Upson (pictured above) was the hero of the hour once again, so soon after his play-off semi-final winner against Sheffield United last season, when he struck the only goal of the game in the 89th minute with a 20-yard effort.

Yeovil boss Gary Johnson stuck with the majority of the starting line-up that had won the Play-Off Final at Brentford with only newboys Danny Seaborne and Alan Tate coming into the team.Football: Millwall 0, Yeovil Town 1: Ed Upson is the hero once more!

Johnson had said that he would stay true to those that had helped the club to promotion to the second tier of English football and true enough they came up trumps again with a dogged performance.

One player who missed out on making the playing squad was club captain Jamie McAllister (pictured right) who, despite having started training following a knee injury, was left out of proceedings, but instead helped with the BBC radio match commentary.

BBC listeners could hear McAllister at first scream and then, after momentarily forgetting that the commentary box was among the Millwall faithful, began to quietly chuckle with delight when Upson’s shot nestled into the back of the net.

The Scotsman had said throughout that Yeovil would not want to settle for a point and so Upson’s late goal was a perfect way to back up McAllister’s theory.

McAllister added that it was “not pretty” but they had dug in and ground out the result.

Yeovil know they will have to “grind out” plenty more games over the coming months if they are to prove the bookmakers wrong and beat the drop.

But the future is the future; what is now, is the present and Yeovil can justly celebrate a great win on a great occasion for the club.
