YEOVIL Town made it eight wins on the bounce – a club record as a Football League outfit – this afternoon with a 3-0 success over Scunthorpe United at Huish Park.Football: Yeovil Town 3, Scunthorpe United 0

It was a dogged performance against the visitors, but Yeovil slowly turned the screw and dominated the proceedings.

Byron Webster gave Yeovil the opener just before the half-hour mark with a looping header.

Yeovil doubled their advantage in the 72nd minute when James Hayter kept his nerve to slot home a penalty after Sam Foley was brought down inside the box.

Yeovil had some great opportunities to have increased their lead even further as they turned the screw, but Scunthorpe keeper Sam Slocombe brought off some good saves to deny the Glovers who, when in attack, looked on fire.

The win saw Yeovil bounce up the table to third place and just one point adrift of leaders AFC Bournemouth who are on 58pts.

Sheffield United are second with 57pts with a 18+ goal difference, while Yeovil are third with the same points and 15+, while Doncaster Rovers are fourth also with 57pts  and a same goal difference, but have scored less than the Glovers.Football: Yeovil Town 3, Scunthorpe United 0

Tranmere Rovers, who suffered a shock 2-0 defeat last night against ShrewsburyTown, have dropped to fifth, while SwindonTown are sixth.

Just four points separate the leading seven clubs and an intriguing and very exciting finale to the 2012-13 season looks on the cards.

Yeovil’s win today made them the first club in League One this season to reach double figures for home victories.

Next up for Yeovil – an away trip to Doncaster Rovers next Saturday (Feb 23). A massive game for both clubs, but Yeovil are on such a roll at the moment that they will not fear anyone or anything.
