B&Q store backs Macmillan Cancer Support

THE Yeovil B&Q store have chosen Macmillan Cancer Support as their charity to support, after staff at the store recently lost a much loved colleague to cancer.

Their fundraising efforts have started in earnest, recently holding a successful raffle event where B&Q generously donated a selection of fantastic prizes, raising over £160.

The store has taken on Macmillan Cancer Support as their chosen charity for the next 12 months and hope to raise over £1,000.

Staff are currently planning a calendar of events in order to raise vital funds for the charity, which included a staff World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event on Friday (September 28, 2012) and an in store Halloween Party on October 31.

Donna Woodward, the helpful people’s champion at the Yeovil store, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Macmillan as we know firsthand the support it gives to people with cancer.

''We’ve recently had a colleague pass away from cancer and Macmillan provided such essential support, so it makes perfect sense for us to choose them.''

Macmillan's area fundraising manager, Tori Webb, added: ''We are incredibly grateful to Yeovil B&Q for choosing to support Macmillan

''The money they raise will help us to continue to support local people living with cancer; for example in 2011 we gave £63,811 worth of financial grants to people in Somerset affected by cancer. We are entirely funded by donations, so B&Q’s support really counts.''

Macmillan improves the lives of people affected by cancer, providing practical, medical, emotional and financial support. With one in three of us affected by cancer in our lifetime, their work is essential
